NHS England waitlist hits 7.6 million

The NHS England hospital treatment list has hit nearly 7.6 million for the first time since the end of June 2023. In May the figure was 7.5 million with overall, 383,083 people waiting for over a year to start hospital treatment.
The NHS is facing huge challenges and it is likely to get worse before it gets better. Despite announcing a new online matching platform that will allow staff to view and add available surgery slots at hospitals across the country that will match patients up for appointments and surgery.
The system was launched for patients who has been on the waitlist for the longest following the Covid-19 pandeminc and was introduced for patients needing hospital admission however it is now expanding to include cancer, diagnotic checks and outpatient appointments.

The NHS chief executive, said: “Despite significant pressure on services, NHS staff have already made incredible progress against our elective recovery plan, and this smart new tool will help us to continue to reduce long waits for patients. Technology is already transforming the way we work in the NHS and we will continue to embrace the latest innovations, like this one, to deliver the best possible for care for patients.”
