We are an independent and specialist healthcare insurance broker. We do not funnel clients to pre-negotiated insurers, we treat our individual private and group corporate clients as ‘unique’ and find solutions that perfectly fit their needs and objectives.   • What products and services do BDHL deal with?

UK and International Medical Insurance for groups (Employee Benefits) and individuals (private), Group Income Protection (often referred to as GIP or PHI), Group Life (often referred to as Death in Service Benefit), Group Critical Illness Cover, Group Dental Insurance , Health Cash Plans, Group Travel Insurance and Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP). We also have partner arrangements with pension specialists.

  • How much does BDHL’s service cost?

Generally BDHL are paid commission by the insurers. This commission amount is built into every premium and therefore appointing BDHL as your broker or using our services does not cost you anything extra. However, we can work on a pre-agreed “fee basis” which would be dependent on criteria such as insurance type and group size

  • Which insurers do BDHL work with?

BDHL has agency agreements with all the leading insurance providers, niche and specialist providers. Providers include: Aviva, AXA PPP Healthcare, Bupa, The PHC, Vitality Health, April UK, Freedom Health, General & Medical, Cigna, Healix, AM Trust, Canada Life, Ellipse, L&G, MetLife, Omnilife, Optimal, Unum, Zurich.

  • What are BDHL’s “average” client, size and industry sector?

We can accommodate all client sizes and types procuring the best solutions for them.

  • Is BDHL’s bargaining power as good as say Mercer or AON?

In fact some insurers do not work with the bigger brokers so we are often better placed to find a more exacting fit and solution for our clients’ needs where other brokers can fall short.

  • What are BDHL’s value added services?

You will be provided with a dedicated Account Manager (one point of contact). Annual market reviews (biennial for Group Life/ Death in service benefit and Group Income Protection /GIP). Advice on introducing health and well being strategies to your organisation and the value of using these as an employee benefit. On-going scheme management and face-to-face meetings as and when required. BDHL also offers assistance in complex technical situations or claims issues.

  • How do BDHL go about understanding my company’s needs?

BDHL aim to visit all our clients face to face before each renewal date. BDHL carry out a full fact find to establish your company’s needs and objectives, any overlapping benefits, advice on where we think you can save money or indeed if you are falling short compared to competitors in your industry. If the scheme is already in place, we will look at why it was implemented in the first place and ensure your current arrangements continue to meet those objectives. BDHL will present the market review findings in a clear report which can be emailed to the client, sent in the post or presented by your account manager.

  • What experience does BDHL have in dealing with large corporate clients?

BDHL has a number of large corporate clients, from high street brands to a well-known European professional sports organisation! Their policies range from Claims rated Medical Insurance to Healthcare Trusts.

  • What employee benefits are my competitors offering in my industry?

The most popular benefits currently are Private Health Insurance, Group Life Insurance / Death in Service Benefit, Group Critical Illness Cover, Group Income Protection and Pensions. Recently there has also been further interest in Health Cash Plans which reimburse employees for visits to e.g optician, dentist etc. A significant number of employers also offer childcare vouchers, cycle to work schemes, discounts on gyms/high street shopping, flu jabs, vaccinations and full health screening. All of which BDHL can help with. However, we will establish your industry pressures and needs during our fact find and will be able to tailor our recommendation on a case-by-case basis.

  • What is the average cost to my company to implement a group life insurance/ death in service benefits, Group Critical Illness Cover / Group Income Protection / Group Private Medical Insurance scheme?

There are many factors involved in calculating a premium not least your industry, job, role, salary, age, profile and level of cover required. You can get cover for less than £100 per person per year and BDHL are able to discuss these options with you.

  • What is the benefit to my company by introducing Private Medical Insurance?

Improves employee/employer relations. Employee feels valued. Employees returning back to work sooner after illness or injury. PMI is a key benefit that can help attract and retain your best staff. Often provides value added benefits (discounts on gyms, shopping etc.) so providing a tangible benefit even if not ill.

  • What are my underwriting options?

For new policies any pre-existing or planned medical treatment would be excluded from cover and for existing policy holders wanting to transfer to a different insurer special transfer terms can be arranged. For group schemes usually of 10 or more it is possible to disregard medical histories.

  • What is the minimum group size?

We can cover a group scheme of one member. However, most insurers would look at a minimum of three employees.

  • Can I cover my employees overseas?

Whether you need International Health Insurance Cover, International Group Life, International Travel etc. We can find a solution for you. Even if in countries such as Afghanistan and Libya.
